Users: A User is a person, a device, an application/program within or outside of enterprise network that interacts with enterprise applications, databases, and other systems.

User roles: A user role is a grouping of permissions or rights . Instead of assigning individual permissions to users, admins can create user roles and assign roles to users. For example, say the admin creates user roles called VP, Director, Manager, each with a different set of permissions, and assigns these roles to users based on their position in the company. Permission modification is thus simplified since changes can then be made at the Role level instead of the individual level  and all the users with that role will have their permissions updated automatically.
